Music. Indulge in it. Only live music can capture the intensity of a dramatic pause, a resounding chorus, or a shimmering hum. It is active rather than passive, connecting you with both the performers and the music, and inviting you to take part in its creation. Its interpretation expresses that which cannot be put into words. Indulge in the music Rackham Symphony Choir provides you, and experience the inspiration, healing, joy and magic that enriches our lives. Indulge in music with our Season Performance Schedule. Excellence. Demand it. Rackham Symphony Choir is committed to the highest standards of musical excellence. Suzanne Mallare Acton, RSC Artistic and Music Director, Chorus Master for the Michigan Opera Theatre and renowned conductor, sets the tone. Her inspired vision brings together unique blends of composers, instrumentalists, soloists and choristers from local, national and international circles, creating unforgettable concerts. Composers such as Thomas Beveridge, Gian Carlo Menotti and Richard Einhorn have joined with the Choir in special presentations to discuss their works with the audience. Internationally acclaimed vocalists such as Roderick Dixon, Alfreda Burke and Vivian Cherry with jazz all-stars Marion Hayden, Alvin Waddles and Marcus Belgrave have created unforgettable concerts. Whether classical or contemporary, the Rackham Symphony Choir’s repertoire covers a variety of musical cultures, styles and periods, from the great classical compositions to unique and rarely performed works. The driving rhythms of African Sanctus; the fusion of prose and song of the Holocaust Cantata; and Too Hot to Handel, the blues-jazz-gospel reinvention of Handel’s Messiah, inspire and excite. Musicians are drawn to RSC by the unique opportunity to perform groundbreaking works with timely themes including Voices of Light, Reluctant Dragon, Carmina Burana, Misa Criolla and Yizkor Requiem.
